ABOUT ME

I am a cultural historian of the early modern Mediterranean with a focus on the Italian peninsula. My research interests include the entangled study of objects, visual sources, built environment, urban history, history of medicine, and religious diversity. I have tackled this variety of interests in two main different projects (but who knows what the future holds!): in my PhD (University of Cambridge, 2021) on The System of Lazzaretti in the early modern Mediterranean which is also my first book project; and in my current position as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at La Sapienza University of Rome focusing on Spaces of Encounters and burial Practices of the Other: Liminality, Cemeteries, and funerary Rituals in early modern Italy (SEPOLCRI).

I have taught several courses on early modern history, material culture, and Mediterranean history for the University of Manchester, and the University of Cambridge where I am currently an Associate Researcher.

In my spare time, I am an avid open water, marathon, and ice swimmer.
